Subutex:Suboxone use by prison inmates

HMP and NOMS North East Area have commissioned a booklet following work with Lifeline Project to address the problems related to Subutex use by inmates. The release of the booklet follows a controversial Channel 4 Newsnight item and an article in Druglink Magazine, which highlighted the need for coherent information and practices with inmates.

2005 Drugs Act has a number of stated aims including the enhancement of Police and Court powers against drug offenders by the creation of a new presumption of intent to supply where a defendant is found to be in possession of a certain quantity of controlled drugs. This Act came into force on 1st January 2006.
