Continued recovery requires discipline and commitment.
A study by Moos & Moos (2006) found that those who did not seek help with alcohol addiction were less likely to achieve 3-year sobriety and were more likely to relapse. 62.4% who did not receive help relapsed, compared to 43.4% who did receive help.
They concluded that preventive interventions helps to stop future alcohol problems. We at Lifeline believe that offering you a lifetime of aftercare will help to increase the chances of you having a lifetime of sobriety.
A study by Rychtarik et al (1992) found that continued attendance with aftercare reduces the risk of relapse and another study by Ito et al (1988) also concurs that aftercare contributes to improved drinking outcome.
Aftercare at Lifeline is delivered in a variety of ways to ensure that we can offer support and care to as many people as possible, taking into account their individual needs and availability.
We run weekly aftercare sessions at our property that you can come to top-up the work you’ve done during your residential stay at our rehab in Surrey and also to some relapse prevention specific work. You are also welcome to, space providing, to attend our usual weekly treatment timetable- attending session as and when it is suitable for you.
As you come up to the end of your residential stay, you’ll have a 1:1 session to discuss and plan your aftercare sessions, and generally how you plan to prevent relapse after you leave.
Part of this is working with us to decide how often you want to be contacted by your keyworker after you leave, and how you would like to be contacted (email, telephone or face-to-face). We can regularly review this to increase or decrease the level as you need.
Alongside these regular sessions and contacts, we also run events and meet-ups where you can catch up with the staff and other clients and have fun in a safe and sober environment.
We also have online support available via our Lifeline alumni page where you can chat and discuss issues with other clients and staff alike.
We also actively encourage clients to come in and volunteer at the center in whatever capacity they can or want to.
Most importantly, aftercare is tailored to you – you do as much or as little as you want or are able to.
