The Board Members

John Scampion
Chair

John lives in Prestwich and is a chartered accountant. He worked in the NHS for over 20 years, most recently as Finance Director for the NHS Trust that runs a group of hospitals including MRI, St Mary’s and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. He now works as a management consultant . John joined the Board in September 2006.

   

Mick Barwood

Recently retired from 30 years of working in the NHS as a mental health nurse. Much of his clinical work was in Forensic Psychiatry. He has considerable experience of establishing new services in prisons. In more recent years Mick worked as an Executive Director of Merseycare NHS Trust and as a part of this role oversaw their drug and alcohol services, a role that he had previously carried out in West London Mental Health services. Mick is also a Director of the Greater Manchester Probation Service. He has a keen interest in walking, weight training, reading and football. Mick joined the Board in September 2006.

   

Guy Berry

HR Director within Local Government responsible for leading the delivery of Corporate HR, Employee Development, Occupational Health and Safety and Business Support Services. Guy has worked in a variety of personnel and training roles with local authorities in the North West and prior to that within retailing. His experience in Local Government includes working in Housing and Social Services Departments as well as Corporate HR teams. Guy was appointed to the Board of Trustees in September 2006. 

   

Lynda Brady

The North West Regional Director of the Open University, Europe’s largest distance learning institution. The Open University has a commitment to open access to Higher Education, recognising that previous educational qualifications should not be used as a barrier to education, which has the potential to transform lives. Lynda has worked in Higher Education for 12 years, lecturing in law at John Moores University in Liverpool before joining the Open University in 2002. Lynda joined the Board of Trustees at Lifeline in September 2006.

Peter Garland

A non-executive Director of Sella Ltd; a Stockport based control systems engineering company. He has many years commercial experience in a contract based environment. He also sits on the Lake District Local Access Forum and helps run a local newsletter in the Langdale Valley . Peter joined the Board in September 2006.

   

Davy Iredale

Davy lives in Chorlton in Manchester. He is the Chief Executive for Commitment in Communities and has worked alongside Lifeline in various roles over the past 16 years. Previously he was Chair of DPAS, the Home Office Drugs Prevention Unit for several years in the early 90s and worked in Manchester’s Chief Executive Department for 16 years on crime and drug and regeneration related issues . He joined the Board in May/June 2005.

   

Jocelyn Jean-Pierre

A local Government Officer from Bradford and also a Board Member of a Regional Housing Association. She has been a Board Member since 2003.

   

Eddie Kane

Director of the Personality Disorder Research Institute at the University of Nottingham. He is also a visiting professor at Imperial College School of Medicine. He has worked in the public and independent health and social care sectors for over 30 years. During this time he has held a wide range of posts including NHS Trust CEO, Principal Government Adviser on services for people with personality disorder, national Director of High Security Psychiatric Services and Director of Mental Health for London.  He has also been Chairman of a charity aimed at improving access to the Arts for disabled people and a Board Member of a London based housing organisation. Eddie joined the Board in September 2006.

   

David Mackintosh

David Mackintosh lives in Upminster, Essex. He currently runs the London Drugs Policy Forum, working with a wide range of agencies seeking to limit the harm caused by substance misuse. He worked in the past for the UK Anti-Drugs Co-ordination Unit, with special responsibility for treatment and young people’s issues. David joined the Board in May/June 2005.

   

Peter McDermott

His experience of the drug field began as a patient in 1975 and as a worker in 1987. Since then he has enjoyed a love/hate relationship with the field. His areas of interest include drug policy, harm reduction and user involvement and patient advocacy. Peter has had a long relationship with Lifeline as an external consultant. In addition to his role as a Trustee of Lifeline he is a Non-Executive Director of the National Treatment Agency (NTA) and is the North West Regional Advocate for the Alliance. Peter joined the Board in September 2006.

   

Jon Snape

Jon Snape lives in Manchester. He works for Great Places Housing Group, where he is a Regional Manager for supported housing. Jon joined the Board in May/June 2005.

   

Sheila A Lee
Chair (2004-2007)

Sheila Lee (Chair) is a lecturer, teacher trainer and examiner in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) who lives in Rochdale . Sheila has been a Board Member since 1994 and was elected as Chair in June 2004.
